About the role:
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager who will be reporting to the Director of Engineering and will be to direct a team of dedicated engineers of varied experience levels.The platform team looks after various system services, golden paths, cloud infrastructure and design patterns used by the wider product & engineering teams within Deputy. Your role will be to ensure the continuity, delivery and business alignment of the team’s roadmap.
Enabling your team as an inspiring Technical Manager, co-create the technical vision, strategy and technical roadmap planning and product definition for your team, alongside your technical leads and product managers/product designer.
You are a player coach who can roll up your sleeves and be hands on to help the team achieve their goals.

Main responsibilities:
- Work with stakeholders to provide technical solutions to problems or issues
- Act as a enabler, removing roadblocks to progress as needed
- Maintain high quality standards for yourself and software engineering practices of your team
- Work with team members to guide solutions towards business and technology goals
- Drive the continuous improvement of processes and ways of work to improve team capacity and capability
- Assist the team in a hands-on capacity as required, running agile ceremonies, helping people with self-organising skills, facilitating workshops
- Work with your peers to improve the platform organisation and generate value to the rest of the company.
- Work closely with account and technical teams of our core vendors like AWS, Datadog, etc
About you and your experience:
- 5+ years of engineering management experience building highly performing, self-managing autonomous teams
- Bias to action and effecting organisational change
- Influential with engineering leadership and the engineer community
- Ability to handle competing priorities
